"Yes, Virginia the Musical" an exciting new holiday classic based on the Macy’s and NBC Holiday special of the same name and produced by Youth Theatre Carson City runs this weekend.

The show offers three performances, Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. "Yes, Virginia the Musical" is a brand-new musical that has been adapted specifically for children and families by Macy’s, in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon has always loved Christmas. Until the day her classmates bring up the age-old question: “Is there a Santa Claus?” Not sure what to believe, Virginia ventures into the city to find out for herself. Along the way she consults some unusual characters: a scraggly Santa ringing a bell, an excitable librarian with a shelf full of Christmas books, and her quirky doctor father.

Unable to find the answers she’s looking for, Virginia writes to The New York Sun newspaper. Her letter makes its way to the desk of curmudgeonly editor Francis Church, who has better things to do than respond to a little girl’s questions. But through Virginia’s determination (and a little help from a scraggly Santa) Mr. Church is persuaded to write his answer…an answer that becomes the most famous newspaper editorial of all time.

Yes, Virginia the Musical is presented by the Youth Theatre Carson City Showstoppers. YTCC's Showstoppers are a special group of performers, hand-picked from the most talented, most dedicated and most enthusiastic members of the YTCC program.  Made up of 20 local singers, dancers and actors ages 7-16, the Showstoppers tour around the area bringing their love of the arts to their community. Also joining the cast are some very special guest stars including Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, and Secretary of State Ross Miller as well as some very talented actors from the community.

The Showstoppers have been selected to perform in Disneyland this February, and Yes, Virginia: The Musical is serving as a fundraiser to help them get there!
