Three people were arrested Thursday in connection with an attempted burglary in the 2700 block of North Carson Street.
Two of those arrested were a married couple, Shawna Lia and Jeffrey K. Freeman, ages 36 and 38, respectively. Both face various felony and lesser charges. The third person, a 52-year-old Carson City man, was arrested for suspicion of gross misdemeanor conspiracy to burglarize and obstructing a police officer.
According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area of Northgate Lane east of the Dollar Tree store noticed a vehicle parked in adjacent field at around 3:19 a.m. He approached the vehicle and saw a man jump out of the right passenger window and another man run west toward North Carson Street.
The officer activated his lights and sirens and drove west toward the two men running. The officer then saw a vehicle with its headlights on drive in reverse near North Carson Street. The vehicle was being driven by Shawna Freeman. The officer pursued the vehicle with the patrol vehicle's ights and sirens activated for about a quarter mile until Freeman stopped in the 2700 block of North Carson Street.
The deputy cuffed and arrested Freeman for evading, eluding and failure to stop. Meanwhile, another officer located one of the men hiding behind a stack of wood pallets and arrested him.
It was determined that the vehicle where the officer first spotted the two men who took off running had the right side of its window broken out with the inside being ransacked, the arrest report states.
Officers did an inventory of the vehicle the woman was driving. In the passenger side of the vehicle's floor board were numerous tools commonly used for burglary, the arrest report states.
Also found in the vehicle's center console was a black pouch with a small clear plastic baggy with white crystalized substance, along with a white glass pipe with brown burnt residue on the bulb end of the pipe. Officers searched the woman's purse and found a metal container with four small cotton balls and a spoon with heroin residue. Shawna Freeman confirmed that it was heroin residue the officer had found, the arrest report states.
After further investigation it was learned that one of the men that jumped out of the window and ran west across North Carson Street was Jeffrey Freeman, husband of Shawna. The man who was with them, and subsequently charged with gross misdemeanor conspiracy to commit burglary, told the arresting officer that it was Jeffrey Freeman who broke the window of the vehicle and went inside attempting to burglarize it, the arrest report states.
At 9:47 a.m. Jeffrey Freeman was located and arrested in the 500 block of North Stewart Street. He was found in a trailer that was parked on the lot. Upon searching, officers found a makeshift pipe with marijuana inside, and a small clear baggie of marijuana, the arrest report states.
