A Care Flight helicopter was ordered Thursday evening after a 46-year-old man was found in the 3000 block of Cortez Street in Carson City with a gunshot wound to the head, according to dispatch via police scanner.

It is unknown if the man shot himself. The original call into dispatch was that the man did shoot himself. The reporting person who called dispatch said there was a gun on the man. It is not known if the man called 911 dispatch reporting that he shot himself or if someone found him shot and called. The man was said to be unconscious with labored breathing when paramedics arrived at around 5:50 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff's Office authorities were informed the man and his spouse may have been involved in a verbal dispute before the man was found, according to dispatch via scanner.

Care Flight landed near the scene and took the victim to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Traffic was blocked at Sonoma, Baker and Cortez streets. Detectives were called to investigate.
