Event Date:
April 28, 2015 (All day)

On April 28 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will hold a crosswalk safety operation that will utilize deputies dressed in bright orange attire who will use a marked crosswalk to cross the street at various locations in Carson City. Drivers will be pulled over by a marked patrol unit if they fail to stop for the pedestrians in the crosswalk, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout the state are participating in Joining Forces through the rest of the month of April. The focus of this event will be pedestrian safety.

Grant funding for this event is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety. These monies are used to pay for additional deputies who will be out looking for issues dealing with Pedestrians.

Other events that will be held in the future focus on impaired driving, seat belt use, distracted driving, speeding, and pedestrian safety. The object of these events is to increase safety on our roadways and reduce crashes which can lead to death and injuries.

The last crosswalk operation for the sheriff's office, done before Christmas, resulted in 29 warnings.
