UPDATE: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At 3:03 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, fire and ambulance responded to a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Carson Street and 10th Street. On arrival, it was learned that a 13-year-old Carson Middle School student was crossing Carson Street in the crosswalk when she was struck by a north bound vehicle. The student was determined to be in critical condition and care flighted to Renown.
As a result of the severity of the accident, the Sheriff’s Office has requested the Nevada Highway Patrol to take the lead on this investigation. As this matter remains under investigation, the name/identity of the driver is not yet being released. No citations or arrests have yet been completed.
Of note, the downtown area where this incident took place has been a recent focus by the Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Highway Patrol for Joining Forces pedestrian crosswalk enforcement activities. The events have resulted in numerous citations for speeding, distracted driving and failing to yield to persons in the crosswalks, said Furlong.

UPDATE: A teen struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk area this afternoon on South Carson Street was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.
The accident happened in the 1000 block of South Carson Street in an area where there have been crosswalk safety operations conducted in the past few months by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

A female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and will be taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno. The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. in the crosswalk area, according to dispatch.
Arriving officers report the teen to be unconscious. She will be transported by ambulance to a landing zone, according to dispatch.
