Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest pair on felony drug charges

A man and woman were arrested Monday on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Mary Jenae Adams, 24, of Carson City and Michael Louis Kizer, 30, of Schurz, Nev., were taken into custody at 9:51 a.m. in the area of Northridge and Roop streets.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol in the area of Winnie Lane observed Adams driving a black 1993 Buick sedan northbound. The arresting officer knew Adams did not have a valid license, saw the vehicle did not have a front license plate and observed the window was obstructed. A traffic stop was made. Adams could not provide the officer with a current proof of registration or insurance.

A warrant check was done on both Adams and Kizer where it was learned Adams was on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a no drug and alcohol clause, according to the arrest report.

Kizer had a history of being armed and a prior arrest for murder, the arrest report states. Both were removed from the vehicle and a pat-down of both was conducted. The arresting officer asked Adams if there was anything illegal in the vehicle The woman stated she did not think so but wasn't sure because the vehicle didn't belong to her, the report states.

As the officer was speaking, Deputy Riggin arrived with K9 Tarzan. A free-ar sniff around the vehicle was done after Adams denied consent of a search, the arrest report states. The dog alerted to the presence of drug odor from the vehicle and a search was conducted where a methamphetamine pipe and a trace amount of the drug found, according to the arrest report.

Officers read the the pair their Miranda rights which they both stated they understood and waived. Neither admitted to possession of the backpack.

Adams faces the following charges: Possession of a controlled substance, a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, failure to display front license plate, and violation of pretrial supervision. Bail: $6,891.

Kizer faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637.

In other arrests:

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 12:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of Highway 50 East on a misdemeanor warrant and suspicion of being in possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, a gross misdemeanor.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies made contact with the man, knowing he had a warrant issued Oct. 7, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court for failure to attend domestic violence counseling. Once in custody officers checked his duffel bag and found a plastic vial containing 800 mg prescription-only ibuprofen. The man said he got the pills from his girlfriend. Bail: $3,500.

A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 1:39 p.m. at Imperial and Hampton streets for allegedly obstructing an officer by making false statements, and on two warrants, one out of Carson City Justice Court and the other, Douglas County.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area in reference to a man and woman harassing people. Officers made contact with the man, who identified himself with a different name than what officers knew him as, the report states.

Dispatch conducted a warrant check of the man and advised he had two confirmed confirmed warrants. The Carson City warrant, issued April 1, 2014, was for being in violation of a suspended sentence, failure to report for color code testing. The other warrant was issued out of Tahoe Justice Court, failure to appear in court, issued March 4, 2014. Bail: $4,087.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 3:55 p.m. at the intersection of Fifth Street and Airport Road for driving on a revoked license and expired registration. Officers stopped the man after seeing the registration on the vehicle had expired.

A check on the man showed he had a felony warrant in Pocatello, Idaho for aggravated assault and a revoked license status on his license. He showed 12 different withdrawals on his license for failure to appear, DUI and driving without insurance. Bail: $704.

— A 20-year-old Carson City woman was booked into Carson City Jail Monday on three misdemeanor court warrants issued out of Carson City Justice Court for her arrest. The warrants were for failure to obtain mental health screening issued April 22, 2014, and two counts failure to pay fines or restitution as ordered by the court, issued March 28 and April 1, 2014. Bail: $2,011.

— A 45-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, 2:03 a.m. in the area of Lorraine Street and Sherman Lane on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued March 10, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $200.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
