Signups begin for Carson City Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy

Applications are being accepted beginning today for the Carson City Citizens Academy, Sheriff's Ken Furlong announced.
The academy begins Feb. 2 and is designed for people interested in law enforcement who want to experience the wide range of duties the Sheriff’s Office performs.

This informative Academy explains what the Sheriff’s Office does, how they do it and why it is done in a particular manner, as well as, the all important role that community policing plays. Participants will learn about patrol operations, arrest procedures, defensive tactics and units specializing in abatement, illegal drugs and reducing graffiti.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the Citizens Academy from Feb. 2 to April 3, 2011. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ormsby Room Carson City Sheriff’s Office; some classes may be held at off-site locations.

The Academy is open to adults 18 years of age and older with a preference given to Carson City residents, local merchants and their employees and may be of particular interest to senior citizens. There is no charge for the class, but due to a limited number of openings some applicants will not be able to attend. The dead line for completed application is Monday,
Jan. 24, 2011.
