Carson City Sheriff's Office traffic deputy Rick Dodds retires today, Thursday, after 26 years on the force.

Dodds joined the Carson City Sheriff's Office on July 24th, 1987 after spending two years as a reserve officer. This year he was chosen by his colleagues as Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Year.

At a retirement luncheon thrown by colleagues on Wednesday, Dodds said he was grateful for the years he spent on the force, telling his fellow officers that they are among the best professionals in law enforcement.

"It has been a joy to work with all of you. Thank you. I hope you guys also have a lengthy career ahead of you," Dodd said addressing his fellow officers.

Dodds served as a regular patrol officer from 1987 to 1997, a detective from 1997 to 2006. He was a field training officer for two years as well as serving as an officer assigned to the Carson City gang unit. For the past year Dodds has served as a traffic officer.

Sheriff Ken Furlong noted that Dodds has done a "fantastic job" on the force and on top of that leaves the sheriff's office as a Deputy of The Year.

"You could not cap off a career any better than this — that recognition of your peers who care and believe in you," said Furlong.

Dodds said he's going to spend his time in retirement on his motorcycle and doing some work around the house.
