UPDATE 3:50PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong provides an update regarding two suspects who remain at large after a burglary this morning in the 4700 block of Old Clear Creek Road.

At approximately 4 a.m. today, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in the 4700 block of Old Clear Creek Road. The address is located in a remote region between Carson City and Spooner Summit (Hwy 50 West). The resident reported that a white male adult, 6 foot tall, wearing orange jumpsuit, identified himself as a gas utility worker searching for the origin of a gas leak.

The resident was alerted, since there are no gas service lines in the area, and the original discovery of the man took place on a patio/deck to the rear of the house. The resident armed himself and went to the front door and found the man in a vehicle that had been parked directly in front of the garage doors and front door porch. A conversation ensued at the porch before the suspect jumped into his vehicle in an attempt to flee. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed onto an adjacent property. Although the resident did fire his weapon during the incident, no one was injured by the shots.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and determined that there was evidence of two suspects at the scene and both fled into the surrounding mountains south of the Clear Creek area. By day light hours, Carson City and Douglas County units were assisted by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Raven Unit combing over the rough mountainous terrain. The suspects were not located.

The vehicle used by the suspect was a black Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen January 16, 2013. The Nevada license plates were reported stolen on January 19, 2013. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects in this burglary is encouraged to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 887-2500, or Secret Witness if they wish to remain anonymous.

Carson City sheriff's officers are searching the Clear Creek Canyon area this morning for two suspects who tried to burglarize a home and were shot at by the homeowner.

The homeowner told authorities that he shot four times at the suspects who attempted to break into the residence, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The suspects are not believed to have been hit by the gunfire and no blood trail has been found. A vehicle, initially reported as a Jeep Cherokee, has also been located and may be tied to the suspects.

After the attempted break-in, the suspects then took off running up the mountain side of the canyon. Authorities responded to the call at around 4 this morning and immediately began following the footprints of the suspects, Furlong said. A K9 has also been part of the search.

As of 7 a.m., deputies and detectives are positioned in the west side area of Fuji Park. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office RAVEN Helicopter Unit has been called in for assistance, Furlong said.
