A 24-year-old man was found dead in a creek at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The cause of death is believed to be drowning and foul play is not suspected.
William Murphey Sheerin of Gardnerville was discovered by park rangers kneeling face down in the creek, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Pat Brooks. The cause of death is believed to be drowning, however the final cause won't be determined until an autopsy and toxicology report are complete. There were no obvious signs of trauma, said Brooks.
Investigators found receipts from a local store that indicate Sheerin bought alcohol and cigarettes on Sunday night. It is unknown how he arrived at the park.
Anyone who may have had contact with Sheerin in the last 48 hours is encouraged to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Investigation Division as 775-782-9905.
