Motorcycle patrol riders from Nevada and California were welcomed by dignitaries Saturday for the opening of the 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in downtown Carson City.
The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.
Attending the opening ceremony were Nevada Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill, a 40-year-veteran of law enforcement, Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, and Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The ceremony was emceed by Motor Officer Steve Lee of San Francisco.
Awards will be given for the winners of each event. New this year will be the Sheriff’s Award for the Silver Dollar Challenge where one officer will win an uncirculated 1883 Carson City Silver Dollar. It will be presented by Steve Nielsen and his granddaughter Jamie Nielsen of the Nevada Division of the Pony Express in Carson City.
Entry fees for this event will be given to a local charity and is limited to the first 10 riders who sign up. Motor officers from around Northern and Southern Nevada, California, The Nevada Highway Patrol are participating.
The event is being held in conjunction with Nevada Day Inc.'s Battle Born Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly. Events feature:

— Extreme Civilian Moped Challenge (12pm; $10 donation if you bring your Own 49cc Moped or $50 donation to use a CCSO moped)
— Tour and Paranormal Investigation with the Thin Veil Investigators at St. Charles Hotel (1pm-2pm; $10, space limited)
— Fast Draw Competition on Telegraph St. (1pm-3pm)
— Moustache Competition (sign-ups at NV Day Booth begin at 2pm; contest 3pm)
— Beer and Bubbly Brewfest (5pm; $20)
— Carson Victory Rollers Bout at Proctor/Carson (5pm-6pm)
— Karson Kruzers Car Parade to Downtown (6pm)
— Meet the Nevada Day Grand Marshall, actor Jack Waggon and his ‘Big Sky’ Friends at the Nevada Day Booth (6pm-9pm)

In cooperation with Battle Born 1864 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has made arrangements with local tow companies on Saturday night to provide “The Extreme Tow” for those individuals who feel they have had too much to drink and need a safe way to get them and their vehicle home.
Participating tow companies are Cal Neva Towing and Recovery, Carson Tow, Capital Towing, D&S and Valley Towing. These companies will operate on a rotating basis starting at 6:00 p.m. on the 27th until 2:00 a.m. on the 28th. There will be no charge for this service though the tow is limited to 10 miles. Meanwhile, the Karson Kruzers is hosting its 31st annual Run What-Cha-Brung car show today, Saturday, at Fuji Park Fairgrounds in Carson City.
The history of the Karson Kruzers "Run What-Cha-Brung" began when B.J. Barnhurst and some friends discussed the fact that there should be a car show that allowed anyone who "loved" their car to be a part of the show.
"No matter what it looked like, how much money was put into it, if it ran or not, it should be allowed to be showed by its owner hence "Run What-Cha-Brung" was born," organizers say.
The Kruzers have been honoring this idea for more than three decades. Car owners, local and from as far away as Tennessee have pushed, pulled and driven their beloved vehicles to Carson City to be a part of this event. Go here for the schedule.
