A man was arrested Wednesday night after crawling through and falling out of the ceiling at Smith's market forcing the evacuation of the store, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The call came into dispatch at 9:22 p.m. at the Smith's store at 599 East William Street in Carson City. Store employees reported a man was acting erratically and may have a gun.

According to Furlong the man had a altercation with someone in the store. The store was evacuated immediately. The suspect then took off and went into the ceiling of the store by the time officers arrived.

The man fell out of the roof while officers were doing a sweep of the store. A knife was recovered. The man did not have a gun.

"We are pleased in how the Smith's staff handled this by evacuating the store as they did. It helped prepare us the moment we got there," said Furlong.
The man was taken into custody and was medically cleared by Carson City firefighters.

The subject was arrested for misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor destruction of property.
