Carson City sheriff's SET officers arrest man for heroin possession following traffic stop

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 27-year-old Dayton man Thursday after a needle filled with heroin was found after a traffic stop. David Scott Illig was arrested at 7:52 p.m. in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East.

According to the arrest report, a SET team officer patrolling noticed a white Mercury Topaz without license plates, traveling east on Highway 50.

A traffic stop was made and the officer recognized Illig, known to be an ex-felon for sales of controlled substances, the arrest report states. The deputy asked him about not have plates on the vehicle. Illig said he had recently bought the vehicle and removed a temporary permit from the passenger side of the windshield.

The man showed the officer the permit which was valid for the day's date, the arrest report states. The officer called for backup so that he could safely check the VIN number of the vehicle. A back up officer arrived and an exterior sniff of the vehicle was made by K9 Rex that resulted in a positive for narcotics, the arrest report states.

The interior of the vehicle was searched and a small black zipper case in the glove compartment was found to have a hypodermic device with a significant amount of brown liquid inside that tested positive for heroin. Illig was arrested for possession of heroin, a felony, and for possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637.

In other arrests: A 35-year-old Carson City man, Michael Proctor, was arrested Thursday, 4:36 p.m. in the 1700 block of Hamilton Drive on a felony DUI warrant out of Dayton Township Court. Bail: $20,000.

— A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested May 21, 7:49 p.m. at Stewart and Carson streets on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and a failure to appear warrant out of Sparks Justice Court.

According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff's SET officers were conducting a business check and learned the man believed to be involved in a domestic disturbance had a warrant for his arrest.

Officers spoke with the victim who said the man grabbed and pulled her hair, slapping her in the neck and chest area and caused scratches to her left collar bone.
The man was taken into custody. Bail: $5,137.

— A 39-year-old Carson City woman was arrested May 22, 4:31 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on a charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff's deputies were called to location where the victim had blood on his teeth and lips.

The man said he and the woman had been out drinking at a bar and a casino when the woman began to yell at him and then hit him in the head and face. The man said he tried to restrain the woman to keep her from hitting him but she started to kick him as well and threw objects at him, none of which hit him, he said. The man said the woman hit him around 20 times in the head.

When officers spoke with the woman she was asked how the victim got the bloody lip. The woman said she didn't know, according to the arrest report. She said she was defending herself when she was pushed onto a bed and stated she did know know if she hit him or kicked him. The woman had a mark on her right hand and blood on her left hand. Officers determined she was the primary aggressor. Bail: $3,137.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
